Job Description

The Mushkegowuk Regional Economic Development Limited Partnership purchased the Great North Builder’s Supplies (GNBS) property located in Moosonee, Ontario. This property, including buildings and equipment, will facilitate reopening of this business and our entrance into the supply and distribution sector. Initial products will include building materials and hardware. As the venture develops, it will diversify into areas that will complement existing retail operations in the territory.

MDC Supply GP Inc. is the new operating entity for Great North Builder’s Supplies and will continue its membership with the Castle Building Centers Buying Group. The General Manager will report to the MDC Supply GP Inc. Board of Directors. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and possess the skills required for the overall operation of the company in respect to the proper management of the company assets, employees and profitability. Onsite operational and strategic advisory support will be provided to the Manager to facilitate appropriate capacity development of management and staff in the first year to ensure achievement of operational goals.

This position will be responsible for the daily operations of the store’s goals and business objectives. These duties commonly include recruitment and supervision of personnel, meeting sales and financial objectives, advertising and promotions planning, working on special projects, coordinating and supervising inventory, merchandising, pricing, supply chain components and overseeing customer service and owner relations.A competitive remuneration package that includes subsidized accommodations is available.


  • Achieve sales and profitability targets, manage financial recording and monitoring;
  • Understand annual regional buying needs and implement purchasing strategy to minimize pricing and transportation costs and maximize appropriate inventory levels;
  • Manage multiple teams: retail sales, contractor sales, yard, delivery;
  • Management inventory;
  • Planning promotions and weekly flyer set up;
  • Resolving staff, customer, and contractor issues;
  • Loss prevention: training, awareness, and regular discussions with staff;
  • HR planning, staffing levels, employee morale;
  • Ensuring store and yard cleanliness standards are met;
  • Ensure that store fixtures, POS system, trucks and other equipment are in proper condition to meet the store’s operational needs. Understand the POS system and procedures related to purchases;
  • Work on additional duties and assignments as needed;
  • Implement and enforce the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and relevant legislation.


  • Academic training from an accredited educational institution in a business or related program, or experience managing a retail business of a comparable size (minimum 2 years);
  • Experience working in a retail or service industry;
  • Experience in a management / supervisory role;
  • Ability to plan, organize, and delegate work effectively and ensure its completion;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Demonstrated financial management experience;
  • Excellent computer skills with extensive knowledge of Microsoft suite applications (Word, Excel, Power Point etc.);
  • Good understanding of “retail best practices”;
  • Building materials knowledge is considered an asset;
  • Experience with a POS system is considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in the Cree language is considered an asset.
