Congratulations to Lori Noonan of St. Catherine’s, Ontario who is the official winner of the Castle 2020 Weekend Warrior Contest! Lori had the opportunity to select her Weekend Warrior prize and she chose the sleek Fishing Boat valued at $25,000! The lucky winner filled out a ballot at Hook’s Building Centre, a Castle location in Cloyne, Ontario where she is a regular customer in the summer months. It was announced this week at the Virtual SickKids Hospital Celebration of Donors that after recently donating $25,000, Castle has moved to the SickKids Hospital Wall of Benefactors.
The Wall of Benefactors is exclusive to those donors that have exceeded $250,000 in donations. The @SickKids donor wall recognizes those who are helping to fight the greatest challenges in children’s health. A sincere thank you to the Castle Vendor Partners who continue to support our fundraising initiatives each year.
Together we are helping to make a difference and supporting the groundbreaking research of the SickKids Foundation.
Rideau Lakes Building Centre in Elgin, ON is helping to make wishes come true in their community.
Owners Jim and Charlene Summers kindly donated materials to help build an amazing child’s playroom for a local young man who made a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Through the hard work and generosity of Laframboise Construction, local volunteers and the Rideau Lakes team, they were able to bring the young man’s wish to reality.
Jim and Charlene went out of their way to rally local volunteers, help with the event reveal and provide meals to the construction team.
A fine example of just how connected and committed Castle dealers are to their communities.
Castle was honoured to learn that we were recognized by SickKids Foundation in a Donor Spotlight this week. We are proud to be a “Patron” on the Wall of Donors at SickKids Hospital in Toronto which is committed to family-centered compassionate care. Together with our Vendor Partners, our efforts have raised close to $250,000 for the foundation.

This past weekend, the lives of so many families in Nova Scotia and across this country were impacted by an unspeakable series of senseless crimes. We were heartbroken to learn that Castle members Kurt & Tina Gratto of Masstown Hardware Castle Building Supplies lost their daughter and son-in-law Jamie & Greg Blair. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gratto and Blair families through these difficult days.
Jamie & Greg leave behind two sons, Jack 10 and Alexander 12 along with their family dog Zoey. On behalf of the Gratto and Blair families, Castle is establishing a trust fund in support of Jack & Alexander. We have received numerous requests from Castle members and suppliers seeking to support the family. The generosity of this wonderful industry is overwhelming. Details related to the trust fund will be communicated early next week.

Congratulations to Ron Yuill and his wife Danielle who are the Central region winners of The Great Canadian Home Renovation Contest. Ron filled out a ballot at Castle location North Dundas Building Supplies in Chesterville, ON last Fall. The couple was ecstatic to learn about the win and were in the middle of renovations on the home they had recently purchased in Chesterville. Congratulations to Katelyn Grant of Oshawa, ON who was the lucky winner of the Canadian Hockey Giveaway Contest on Instagram during the month of November. Katelyn dropped by the Castle office to pick up a pair of Toronto Maple Leafs tickets and will be enjoying a game later this season. Congratulations to Castle member Rebecca Wichers-Schreur of Burnstown Building Supply in Burnstown, ON on winning the Outstanding Retailer Award (ORA) for Best Young Retailer. Rebecca accepted the award last week in ON at the Hardlines Conference.
The Castle Building Centres Group executive team was honoured to present a cheque in the amount of $35,000 to the SickKids Foundation this past week. The charitable donation was made possible through the generosity of the Castle Vendor Partners who attended our annual golf tournament in August. Castle is proud to be recognized on the SickKids Hospital Wall of Donors.
Castle staff took part in sorting and packaging close to 5000lbs of food donations at the Mississauga Food Bank @themississaugafoodbank This amount of food is equivalent to over 5000 meals for local residents in need. Thank you to all Castle staff who participated.
Another prize in the Castle Wild4Wheels contest was awarded to a lucky Castle customer this past week in the province of Quebec. Pierre Lanthier picked up a ballot at Castle Lortie et Martin in Sainte Agathe Des Monts, QC. Pierre is the lucky winner of 2nd place prize and took home a 2019 4-Wheeler ATV Congratulations to Pierre and thank you to all who entered.
Congratulations to our 1st Prize winner of the Wild4Wheels contest who picked up his prize earlier this week. Josh Popkie of Eganville, Ontario had the winning entry which he filled out at the Eganville Country Depot. Josh and his family went home with an amazing 2019 Suzuki Kingquad 500 ATV!

Castle is pleased to announce the official winner of the 2018 Battle of the Tough Trucks. The contest was one of the largest in Castle’s history and received a record number of entries! The lucky winner of the $40,000 prize was Glenn Tobin of Blackfalds, Alberta! After picking up an online entry ballot at Wolf Creek Building Supplies in Lacombe, Alberta, Glenn entered online and his name was chosen.
Glenn’s name was drawn from over 25,000 entries from across Canada. Congratulations to Glenn and the staff at Wolf Creek Building Supplies.
Glenn chose the sturdy Dodge Ram as his favourite “Tough Truck”!
On August 2nd Burnstown Hardware hosted its Grand Opening. Over 500 customers and visited the store throughout the day to help celebrate the store opening which included over 15 vendors showcasing their products, including demonstrations from many vendors partners.
Dignitaries from the Township of McNab Braeside and Renfrew County were present for the ribbon cutting ceremony and shared some great insight about the expansion and growth coming in the area. Guests enjoyed a BBQ lunch and the festivities included live music from local performer The Calabogie Weather Man, Kevin Lentz, live broadcast on local Radio Station MyFM and many great prizes and raffles.

Over 150 guests representing 80 Castle Vendor Partners from across Canada gathered for the annual On August 27th, 2018, Castle staff and many of their Vendor Partners Castle Vendor Appreciation Golf Tournament. Hosted at the picturesque Club at North Halton in Ontario, the pristine greens and rolling hills made for a beautiful backdrop to another day filled with fun on the perfectly groomed private golf course.
The 150 guests representing 80 national Castle Vendor Partners, had the opportunity to donate to a worthy cause through several exciting charity golf challenges, win great prizes and enjoy a spectacular day at the Club at North Halton’s award-winning course.
Following the round of golf, players enjoyed a gourmet meal and awards presentation in the dining room overlooking the 9th hole. Castle’s annual Vendor Appreciation Golf Tournament recognizes the Valued Vendor Partners who play an on-going role in the success of Castle and the Independent Retailer.
For over a decade, people travel from all over southwestern Ontario to the town of Florence for the Annual Florence Truck & Tractor Pull, organized by The Optimist Club of Bothwell. The exciting event with be held on July 6th 2018 and Castle member Florence Mill is proud to be a major sponsor of the event which benefits youth programs in the community. The exciting showdown features tractors and trucks facing off against each other over a 300-foot track.
Congratulations to Jenna Knowles, Daughter of Scott & Simone Knowles of Knowles Castle Building Supplies in Kapuskasing, ON. Jenna took home two bronze medals in Swimming at the Special Olympics National Summer Games in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Way to go Jenna!
This summer was beaming with charity initiatives including the Hudson Hardware sponsored hole in one contest at the Cunningham’s golf tournament at the Whitlock Golf & Country Club. On June 18th, participants enjoyed an amazing day of golf at the annual tournament that raises money for a variety of different charities every year.
This year, Hudson Hardware, along with 4 other sponsors, sponsored, the Hudson Hardware Hole-in-One Sponsorship. The hole garnered a lot excitement as players tried their luck at shooting a hole in one for the chance to win $100,000 worth of home renovation supplies donated by participating vendor partners.
Although no one was able to win the incredible prize, the event was a success, and Hudson Hardware was happy to participate and be a proud sponsor of the event.

The 1st Annual Eganville Great Canadian Cheese Box Race cheese box race took place on the August 4th. The fun, inventive “boat” race which features upcycled old cheese boxes celebrate the Bonnechere River and the heritage of the Eganville creamery.
The funds raised will contribute to a central waterfront boardwalk revitalization project that will be enjoyed by the entire community. Castle location Eganville Country Depot participated in the event that saw 500 decorated cheese boxes from corporate sponsors and the community dropped into the whitewater of the Bonnechere River for an exhilarating race.
Topmar Building Supplies Ltd. - on the north side of the St. John River in Fredericton NB, reached out to many in their community who had been impacted by the devastating New Brunswick flood of 2018. This included one of their own employees as well as relatives Topmar family. Topmar generously donated Castle buckets filled with cleaning supplies and offered discounts on supplies and rentals to flood victims.
On May 10th, Castle Building Centres Group Ltd. hosted an open house in Mississauga, Ontario, to celebrate our 55th Anniversary. The ceremony was held at their corporate head office inside the beautifully decorated and light filled “Atrium” and served as the perfect backdrop to commemorate the incredible milestone. The event welcomed guests from across Canada and included many local members, valued vendor partners, media as well as Castle employees, both past and present.
Once again, Castle, was proud to sponsor the 44th Bonnechere Cup last month along with 4 local member locations. Since 1974, the races have taken place at the ice oval track in Eganville, Ontario. Some of the greatest names in snowmobiling history have experienced the thrill of this track and we congratulate all the 2018 winners!
Every Christmas Roger Gainer of Docks & Decks in Sudbury, ON lends a hand in his community by Collecting, Sorting and Delivering food items to needy families through the Sudbury Food Bank. He and his wife Terri also created a Local Annual fundraiser hosted in their own home called the Ugly Sweater – TV Bingo Contest night to raise money and food for the local charity.
Minden residents Ed and Grace Schuurmans recently won $5,000 towards a home renovation project in the Great Canadian Fall Renovation Contest operated by Castle Building Centres Group Ltd.
Over the summer, Castle held the second annual Weekend Warrior Contest where Castle locations from across Canada offered their customers the chance to win a Weekend Warrior prize valued at $25,000.
This year’s lucky winner was Christine Paquin of St-Anne-de-lacs, QC. Christine picked up a ballot at Materiaux Robert Boyer also in St Anne. Robert Legault and owner Robert Boyer had the pleasure of awarding this year’s Weekend Warrior Contest winner with a brand new Jayco travel trailer. Christine selected from 3 prize options that also included a Touring Motorcycle or a Fishing Boat. Recently retired, Christine is looking forward to many exciting weekends in her new vehicle.
