Community Support in action! Maada’oozhgamig Castle Building Centre located in Nipigon, Ontario, recently marked a significant milestone of being in operation for one year. To honour their commitment to the Red Rock Indian Band community, General Manager, Marlo Beaucage and Yard Supervisor, Ian Brennen, presented the Chief and Council of the First Nation with a cheque in the amount of$ 58,443.65. This financial contribution represents the on-going commitment that Maada’oozhgamig Castle Building Centre has with the Red Rock Indian Band, demonstrating a respectful and reciprocal relationship. Maada’oozhgamig Castle Building Centre looks forward to continuing to work with the Red Rock Indian Band in supporting economic prosperity.

The donation was on behalf of another historic fundraising year at the Castle Vendor Appreciation Golf Tournament this past summer, and possible through the generosity of our Vendor Partners in attendance, and a Castle match. Castle is a proud Patron on the SickKids Hospital Wall of Donors in Toronto for our continued support. Congratulations to Castle member Wolf Creek Building Supplies who celebrated their 25th Anniversary with an epic community event earlier this month. The Wolf Creek team from all 3 locations, along with over 850 customers, contractors and community residents, descended on the Lacombe, AB location. Attendees enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of food, activities and community bonding including a delicious taco bar and local artisan baked goods, face-painting for the kids and even a mini-vendor trade show. “The event was such a huge success”, says Owner, Rob de Regt. “We feel so blessed to be in this community and are extremely grateful to our amazing clients and customers for their continued support.”

Castle Atlantic Buying Expo raises 16K for IWK Foundation! Earlier this month at the Castle Atlantic Buying Expo, Castle members, vendors and staff took part in a charity casino where they raised an incredible $16,000 with Castle match, in just one afternoon event! It was with great pleasure that Castle presented the proceeds to the IWK Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides specialized care to women, children and youth from across the Maritime provinces and in local communities. Way to go Castle family!

Castle was proud to be a sponsor of the BSIA Lower Mainland Golf Tournament last week where over 140 golfers gathered at the Northview Golf and Country Club in Surrey, BC. Local Castle BDM Jaana Reinikka was stationed at lucky ole 13 to greet the golfers and cheer them on along the way.

Castle was thrilled to participate as the sponsor of the 3-Point Contest at the hugely successful 5th Annual West Park Foundation Tournament of Stars held at the end of March in Toronto. The fundraiser brought together big names in basketball and adoring fans alike for an interactive day of exciting events. West Park is a nationally recognized leader in rehabilitation and complex care. Their highly skilled team of physicians, therapists, and nurses works in partnership with patients to help them overcome enormous health challenges following a severe injury. Masstown Hardware, in Debert, NS recently held a very successful Contractor Appreciation Evening event. Over 30 local contractors attended with over a dozen vendor displays. Each contractor went home with great prizes including a Castle/Masstown branded hoodie and a castle bucket. Congratulations on a great event!

Community Support in action! Castle members care about the communities they serve. Grand Forks Renovation in Grand Forks, BC was thrilled to present the Boundary Community Food Bank with two donations of $1000.00. The funds will be used help fight food insecurity in Boundary, BC region. Owners, Baun & Mei-Lan Mark and staff were commended for their generosity in the Grand Forks Gazette publication.

The curling team has enjoyed an epic season so far with over nine tournaments under their belt already, and a ranking of #6 in Canada and #22 in the entire world! The team is now officially qualified for the Ontario Scotties provincial championship being held in Dorchester, ON from January 22-26, 2024. The tournament was held at the exclusive Wildfire Golf Club in Lakefield, ON. Proceeds go towards helping Community Care Peterborough provide programs and services that support residents in the County of Peterborough to help keep them healthy and safe in their own homes.

Congratulations to Jamie Adams and Tasha Birtch on the grand opening of their new Castle location in Woodstock, ON. The newly built megastore, Adams Building Supply, located on Parkinson Road, kicked off the festivities this past weekend with the official board cutting ceremony on Friday, with the Mayor of Woodstock, Hon. Jerry Acchione, in attendance and a live-to-air with local radio station 104.7 Heart FM. Dozens of product vendors were on hand giving demos and offering great prizes to guests from the surrounding area. The Funnel Cake Factory Food Truck was a big hit with attendees, and the Great Canadian Lumberjack Show gave exhilarating performances all weekend long. The turnout was overwhelming, and it was an exceptional grand opening weekend!

Castle held their annual Vendor Appreciation Golf Tournament this last week where Castle staff, directors and local members gathered with their Vendor Partners at the picturesque Club at North Halton. Participants showed their unwavering support for the SickKids Foundation while enjoying a spectacular day at the Club at North Halton’s award-winning course. They had the opportunity to participate in many charity holes throughout the course and enjoyed a gourmet meal and awards presentation in the dining room overlooking the 9th hole. Castle’s annual charity golf event continues to support The SickKids Foundation and through the generosity of their Vendor Partners, Castle was able to raise the record amount of $60,000 at the event to commemorate their 60th anniversary year.

Community connection at its best! Castle member Rideau Lakes Building Centre in Elgin, Ontario was proud to be a sponsor of the annual Lower Beverly Lake Campground Kids Fishing Derby!!! Jim & Charlene Summers, along with an awesome group of volunteers came out to support the group of newbie anglers who enjoyed a fun-filled day of fishing and fond memories. The young fishing enthusiasts received a complimentary fishing rod & reel and also participated in a Scavenger Hunt for great prizes. A delicious BBQ lunch was served to close the event and a memorable day was had by all those who attended.

Congratulations to the team at Wolf Creek Building Supplies on not one but two incredible Customer Appreciation events last month! The towns of Sylvan Lake & Lacombe, Alberta as the community came out in droves to take part in the successful events. The community was delighted to reunite and agreed it was the best BBQ event in town. Special thanks to The Broom Tree Foundation, a local not-for-profit, for donating and handing out over 300 cupcakes! Fun fact: Over 700 burgers & 200 hot dogs were devoured by the attendees, as well as 6 trays of baked desserts supplied by Party Like a Chef catering. Warman Home Centre in Warman, SK, hosted their 11th Annual Car Show this past July, where over 250 classic cars from the local community and beyond were showcased right on the Warman property. The Warman team served up a BBQ lunch to the folks who stopped by with live entertainment, prize raffles and 50-50 draw that raised money for the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation. The event was a huge success, and Warman Home Centre is looking forward to hosting the event again next year. Congratulations.

Special shout out to “Community Heros” Mike James and the folks at Spring Valley Building Centre who recently attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newest building at Camp Triumph in Kensington, PEI. The Camp officially name the building “The Castle Quarters” to honour the massive, multifaceted contribution of Mike James and over the past 15 years. Camp Triumph provides a unique and unforgettable camp experience to children who have a family member with a serious chronic or terminal illness, or disability. Children, aged 7-16, congregate in this wonderful haven where they take a break from the challenging lives they face at such young ages.

Giving Back! Congratulations to Castle member Drummond Building Supplies in Drummond, New Brunswick on another successful Vendor Appreciation Night. The event took place in late June and invited guests enjoyed a live musician as well as a BBQ feast at the indoor/outdoor event.

Last week Castle Vendor Partner Distribution Matériaux Lavoie (DML) hosted their First Annual Golf Tournament at the Beautiful Chateau Cartier Golf Course in Gatineau, QC. Over 250 golfers were in attendance including Castle’s very own Chair of the Board, Laurie Wichers-Schreur and her husband, Bruce Gagnon. Joining Laurie and Bruce were Quebec Castle members André & Lynn Roy of Matériaux Lac Ste Marie, as well as Louis Bondu and Julie Cloutier of Matériaux Bondu. Our local BDM Robert Legault and his wife Diane rounded off this unique 6-some and a wonderful day was had by everyone who came out to participate in the event. The event wrapped up with a gourmet dinner and an incredible fireworks display.

The folks at Hodgins Building Centre in Wingham, Ontario were busy last month planning and executing not one but two Grand Opening celebrations. The new Castle location first welcomed the local community for a fun-filled day that included Food Trucks, Vendor Booths, and fun activities and prizes for the whole family. Congratulations to Castle member The Goulais River Country Store in the Northern Ontario town of Goulais River who held their official Grand Opening celebration earlier this month. New owner, Kenneth Peter Van Daele, along with his daughter and store manager Kendralyn are excited to continue serving the local market. A great day was had by all local customers and vendor partners who dropped in to enjoy the celebrations.

Castle was pleased to co-sponsor the Eganville Bonnechere Cup held earlier this month in Eganville, ON, along with neighbouring Castle locations C.A. Rieche & Sons, Country Depot, and Wm. Keetch. It was an exciting weekend of snowmobile racing action and social events, with Castle members and staff on location to take in the weekend festivities. Congratulations to Blaine Stephenson from the Wahl Racing Team, who took home the 1st place prize.

The exciting community event takes place each year in February, and this year the event will run through February 12th. Special shout out to their very own Rebecca Gravelle, who is a successful athlete and plays a significant role in the event organization while inspiring the next generation of athletes. Renee Cormier of Traytown, NL, was the lucky Atlantic region winner, who accepted her prize at East-Glo Castle Building Supplies in Gloverton, NL. Congratulations to Mike James, owner of Castle locations Spring Valley and O’Leary Building Centres in PEI, on winning the “Jamie Caseley, Entrepreneur of the Year Award” at the Kensington Chamber of Commerce Business of Excellence Awards. Mike and his wife Pam are the proud owners of a collaboration of businesses across Prince County, PEI. They are deeply committed and passionate about serving their community and were delighted to accept the award at the annual event. The award was presented to Mike by his sister-in-law, Jenn Paynter, whose brother Jamie Caseley passed away last December after a short battle with a rare form of cancer. The award was in Jamie’s honor. Congratulations to the James family on this incredible achievement.

The grand opening merges two great stores; the former site of Peninsula Castle and the former location of G&H Home Specialties. The brand-new, more prominent location will serve the community of Marystown and beyond. Gander Bay Building Supplies in Victoria Cove, NL, celebrated their Customer Appreciation Day a few weeks ago on Small Business Day in Canada, welcoming their valued customers and the community to a day of food, fun, and great giveaways. The event was in gratitude for the accolades they received from the supplier and their community after winning a Hardlines business award earlier this Fall. The participants enjoyed a commemorative cake, a delicious breakfast, and a yummy pizza lunch. The grateful staff also gave away a ton of prizes throughout the day. Congratulations to Ryan and Stephanie Holmes, the proud new owners of Castle location B & M Building Supplies & Hardware in Seldon, NL, who purchased the business from founders Ben and Marie Walbourne. Ben and Marie have been the owners/operators of this local family business since 1988. Ryan, a long-term employee, is excited about the opportunity to bring a new generation into this well-established lumber, building materials, and hardware retail store.  We wish Ben & Marie all the best in their retirement and would like to welcome Ryan and Stephanie to the Castle family.

Hurricane Fiona’s destructive path barrelled through Atlantic Canada, leaving behind flooded streets, damaged homes, and many towns without power. The terrible damage left many Atlantic Canada communities in desperate need of financial assistance, including local Castle locations and their staff. To assist in delivering emergency assistance to those who need it most, Castle has donated $25,000 to the Red Cross Hurricane Fiona Canada Appeal, which the Government of Canada will match. We stand with our Castle family and offer our support as they emerge from the devasting damage stronger than ever.

The ORAs are dedicated to celebrating the achievements of hardware, home improvement, and building supply dealers and their staff across Canada. The awards were handed out at the 2022 Hardlines Conference in Niagara-on-the-lake, ON, this past week. Deborah Brinson, Owner of Gander Bay Building Supplies, and Mike Bourgeois, Store Manager at Grunthall Lumber, were in attendance to accept the awards. The charitable donation was made possible through the generosity of the Castle Vendor Partners who attended our annual golf tournament in August. Castle is proud to be recognized as a Patron on the SickKids Hospital Wall of Donors and together we have raised close $350,000 in donations. 

Castle members are always ready, willing and able to support their local communities. Just like Buchanan’s Hardware in Port Loring, Ontario who recently made a generous donation to Argyle Public School, also in Port Loring. The funds will go towards the purchase of new sporting goods and equipment for the school’s Phys Ed department.

The Castle Vendor Appreciation Golf Tournament in support of SickKids was a huge success! The annual event was held at The Club at North Halton, and all had a great day of golf, games and camaraderie in attendance. Another community supporter! Castle member Rideau Lakes Building Centre in Elgin, Ontario, was proud to sponsor the Lower Beverly Lake Campground Kids Fishing Derby!!! An awesome group of volunteers came out, and over 50 young fishing enthusiasts braved the sweltering heat and enjoyed a fun-filled day of fishing and fond memories. There were plenty of smiling faces and exceptionally appreciative parents, including many who have been Lake Beverly campers for decades. The store even donated a lift of culled lumber to help rebuild the aging mini putt attraction on site!!

We are pleased to announce the multi-year Castle sponsorship of Thomas Giroux as he begins his professional golf career. After an impressive amateur career that included qualifying for the 2021 NCAA National Championships, the 2021 Ontario Men’s Amateur Champion and member of the 2021-2022 Canadian Men’s Amateur National Team, Thomas has recently turned pro. His collegiate accomplishments include winning the 2021 Georgia State Invitational and the 2021 Horizon League Championship. Castle Building Centres and our 330 locations across Canada wish Thomas the very best as he pursues his dream of qualifying for the PGA Tour.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held with local MP Dave Smith on hand, and the event had live radio coverage. The HBM Team was pleased to present another community cheque to Hospice Norwood, a local facility that provides a homelike environment throughout the journey of illness, death and grief. It was a great day on the greens at the ABSDA Annual Golf Tournament. The event was held at the Fox Creek Golf Course in scenic Dieppe, New Brunswick. Castle was proud to be a Platinum sponsor of the event and the Castle Team took home the best dressed award! The tourney was a huge success and included 36 teams and 144 golfers.

Congratulations to Castle member Niagara Building Centre on their Grand Opening held last week in Thorold, Ontario. The celebration was a two day event with a contractor focused gathering on the Friday followed by a community day on Saturday. Participation and support from the local community was fantastic and the team held a charity barbeque on both days where a local BBQ restaurant was on hand to serve up some great eats! Through the generous donations of the attendees, the Niagara Building Centre team was able to donate $1,000 to “Your Life Counts”, a suicide prevention organization.

Congratulations to Amherst Supply in Amherstburg, ON, who held the official Grand Opening of their brand-new store. The 2-day event took place earlier this month, and the huge celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community barbeque on both days. Castle vendors got involved by giving product demos and donating great prizes to the charity raffle. Proceeds from the raffles were donated to the local church, cancer research and the humane society. The local community really came together to make this a memorable and successful event.

Castle locations, Allen Building Centre and Akins Brewer Lumber wanted to do something special for their valued contractors this Christmas, so they partnered with a local craft brewery to create special beer cans with a custom Castle logo. The inspiration came from a fellow Castle location who had great success with this promotion last year! A donation of $1.00 per can from the thousands of beer cans purchased will be donated to the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters club. A Win-Win!

It was announced this week at the Virtual SickKids Hospital Celebration of Donors that after recently donating $25,000, Castle has moved to the SickKids Hospital Wall of Benefactors.  The Wall of Benefactors is exclusive to those donors that have exceeded $250,000 in donations. The @SickKids donor wall recognizes those who are helping to fight the greatest challenges in children’s health. A sincere thank you to the Castle Vendor Partners who continue to support our fundraising initiatives each year. Rideau Lakes Building Centre in Elgin, ON is helping to make wishes come true in their community.  Owners Jim and Charlene Summers kindly donated materials to help build an amazing child’s playroom for a local young man who made a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Through the hard work and generosity of Laframboise Construction, local volunteers and the Rideau Lakes team, they were able to bring the young man’s wish to reality. Jim and Charlene went out of their way to rally local volunteers, help with the event reveal and provide meals to the construction team. A fine example of just how connected and committed Castle dealers are to their communities.

This past weekend, the lives of so many families in Nova Scotia and across this country were impacted by an unspeakable series of senseless crimes. We were heartbroken to learn that Castle members Kurt & Tina Gratto of Masstown Hardware Castle Building Supplies lost their daughter and son-in-law Jamie & Greg Blair. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gratto and Blair families through these difficult days. Jamie & Greg leave behind two sons, Jack 10 and Alexander 12 along with their family dog Zoey. On behalf of the Gratto and Blair families, Castle is establishing a trust fund in support of Jack & Alexander. We have received numerous requests from Castle members and suppliers seeking to support the family. The generosity of this wonderful industry is overwhelming. The Castle Building Centres Group executive team was honoured to present a cheque in the amount of $35,000 to the SickKids Foundation this past week. The charitable donation was made possible through the generosity of the Castle Vendor Partners who attended our annual golf tournament in August. Castle is proud to be recognized on the SickKids Hospital Wall of Donors.

Castle staff took part in sorting and packaging close to 5000lbs of food donations at the Mississauga Food Bank @themississaugafoodbank This amount of food is equivalent to over 5000 meals for local residents in need. Thank you to all Castle staff who participated.

Another prize in the Castle Wild4Wheels contest was awarded to a lucky Castle customer this past week in the province of Quebec. Pierre Lanthier picked up a ballot at Castle Lortie et Martin in Sainte Agathe Des Monts, QC. Castle is pleased to announce the official winner of the 2018 Battle of the Tough Trucks. The contest was one of the largest in Castle’s history and received a record number of entries! The lucky winner of the $40,000 prize was Glenn Tobin of Blackfalds, Alberta! After picking up an online entry ballot at Wolf Creek Building Supplies in Lacombe, Alberta, Glenn entered online and his name was chosen. Glenn’s name was drawn from over 25,000 entries from across Canada. Congratulations to Glenn and the staff at Wolf Creek Building Supplies. Over 150 guests representing 80 Castle Vendor Partners from across Canada gathered for the annual On August 27th, 2018, Castle staff and many of their Vendor Partners Castle Vendor Appreciation Golf Tournament. Hosted at the picturesque Club at North Halton in Ontario, the pristine greens and rolling hills made for a beautiful backdrop to another day filled with fun on the perfectly groomed private golf course. The 150 guests representing 80 national Castle Vendor Partners, had the opportunity to donate to a worthy cause through several exciting charity golf challenges, win great prizes and enjoy a spectacular day at the Club at North Halton’s award-winning course. Following the round of golf, players enjoyed a gourmet meal and awards presentation in the dining room overlooking the 9th hole. Castle’s annual Vendor Appreciation Golf Tournament recognizes the Valued Vendor Partners who play an on-going role in the success of Castle and the Independent Retailer.

On August 2nd Burnstown Hardware hosted its Grand Opening. Over 500 customers and visited the store throughout the day to help celebrate the store opening which included over 15 vendors showcasing their products, including demonstrations from many vendors partners. Dignitaries from the Township of McNab Braeside and Renfrew County were present for the ribbon cutting ceremony and shared some great insight about the expansion and growth coming in the area. Guests enjoyed a BBQ lunch and the festivities included live music from local performer The Calabogie Weather Man, Kevin Lentz, live broadcast on local Radio Station MyFM and many great prizes and raffles. For over a decade, people travel from all over southwestern Ontario to the town of Florence for the Annual Florence Truck & Tractor Pull, organized by The Optimist Club of Bothwell. The exciting event with be held on July 6th 2018 and Castle member Florence Mill is proud to be a major sponsor of the event which benefits youth programs in the community. Topmar Building Supplies Ltd. - on the north side of the St. John River in Fredericton NB, reached out to many in their community who had been impacted by the devastating New Brunswick flood of 2018. This included one of their own employees as well as relatives Topmar family. Topmar generously donated Castle buckets filled with cleaning supplies and offered discounts on supplies and rentals to flood victims.

This summer was beaming with charity initiatives including the Hudson Hardware sponsored hole in one contest at the Cunningham’s golf tournament at the Whitlock Golf & Country Club. On June 18th, participants enjoyed an amazing day of golf at the annual tournament that raises money for a variety of different charities every year. This year, Hudson Hardware, along with 4 other sponsors, sponsored, the Hudson Hardware Hole-in-One Sponsorship. The hole garnered a lot excitement as players tried their luck at shooting a hole in one for the chance to win $100,000 worth of home renovation supplies donated by participating vendor partners. Although no one was able to win the incredible prize, the event was a success, and Hudson Hardware was happy to participate and be a proud sponsor of the event. The 1st Annual Eganville Great Canadian Cheese Box Race cheese box race took place on the August 4th. The fun, inventive “boat” race which features upcycled old cheese boxes celebrate the Bonnechere River and the heritage of the Eganville creamery. The funds raised will contribute to a central waterfront boardwalk revitalization project that will be enjoyed by the entire community. Castle location Eganville Country Depot participated in the event that saw 500 decorated cheese boxes from corporate sponsors and the community dropped into the whitewater of the Bonnechere River for an exhilarating race.

On May 10th, Castle Building Centres Group Ltd. hosted an open house in Mississauga, Ontario, to celebrate our 55th Anniversary. The ceremony was held at their corporate head office inside the beautifully decorated and light filled “Atrium” and served as the perfect backdrop to commemorate the incredible milestone. The event welcomed guests from across Canada and included many local members, valued vendor partners, media as well as Castle employees, both past and present.

Once again, Castle, was proud to sponsor the 44th Bonnechere Cup last month along with 4 local member locations. Since 1974, the races have taken place at the ice oval track in Eganville, Ontario. Some of the greatest names in snowmobiling history have experienced the thrill of this track and we congratulate all the 2018 winners!

Every Christmas Roger Gainer of Docks & Decks in Sudbury, ON lends a hand in his community by Collecting, Sorting and Delivering food items to needy families through the Sudbury Food Bank. He and his wife Terri also created a Local Annual fundraiser hosted in their own home called the Ugly Sweater – TV Bingo Contest night to raise money and food for the local charity.

Minden residents Ed and Grace Schuurmans recently won $5,000 towards a home renovation project in the Great Canadian Fall Renovation Contest operated by Castle Building Centres Group Ltd.

Over the summer, Castle held the second annual Weekend Warrior Contest where Castle locations from across Canada offered their customers the chance to win a Weekend Warrior prize valued at $25,000. This year’s lucky winner was Christine Paquin of St-Anne-de-lacs, QC. Christine picked up a ballot at Materiaux Robert Boyer also in St Anne. Robert Legault and owner Robert Boyer had the pleasure of awarding this year’s Weekend Warrior Contest winner with a brand new Jayco travel trailer. Christine selected from 3 prize options that also included a Touring Motorcycle or a Fishing Boat. Recently retired, Christine is looking forward to many exciting weekends in her new vehicle.
